Why would he say this

My bf said ” I cheated on you” then he laughed. I asked why he said that and he said to see what my reaction was. This was around when we first started dating. He has told me he would never cheat on me. But it’s hard to get over him,saying that. Why would anyone,want to see what your reaction is? Or did he really cheat on me?
